The main purpose of this is to deal with a very early panic() which would otherwise cause a silent hang. A new board_pre_console_putc() function is added to the board API. If provided by the board it will be called in the event of console output before the console is ready. This function should turn on all UARTs and spray the character out if it possibly can. This device tree is for U-Boot's own use and is not necessarily the same one as is passed to the kernel. The device tree compiler output should be placed in the $(obj) rooted tree. Since $(OBJCOPY) insists on adding the path to the generated symbol names, to ensure consistency it should be invoked from the directory where the .dtb file is located and given the input file name without the path. This is useful when a condition is an error but a board reset is unlikely to fix it, so it is better to soldier on in hope. Assertion failures should be caught during development/test. It turns out that assert() is defined separately in a few places in U-Boot with various meanings. This patch cleans up some of these. There are only two types of usage of ROUND currently, one in various config files to round CONFIG_SYS_MALLOC_LEN to a multiple of 4096 bytes. The other in cmd_sf.c where the incorrect behavior of ROUND is worked around be subtracting one from the length argument before passing it to ROUND. This patch fixes ROUND and removes the workaround from cmd_sf. It also results in all of the malloc pools that use ROUND to compute their size shrinking by 4KB. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE has always been just a bad workarond for not being able to use "sizeof(struct global_data)" in assembler files. Recent experience has shown that manual synchronization is not reliable enough. This patch renames CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE into GENERATED_GBL_DATA_SIZE which gets automatically generated by the asm-offsets tool. In the result, all definitions of this value can be deleted from the board config files. We have to make sure that all files that reference such data include the new <asm-offsets.h> file. No other changes have been done yet, but it is obvious that similar changes / simplifications can be done for other, related macro definitions as well.
