* Make sure that argv[] argument pointers are not modified.Wolfgang Denk2010-07-04-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The hush shell dynamically allocates (and re-allocates) memory for the argument strings in the "char *argv[]" argument vector passed to commands. Any code that modifies these pointers will cause serious corruption of the malloc data structures and crash U-Boot, so make sure the compiler can check that no such modifications are being done by changing the code into "char * const argv[]". This modification is the result of debugging a strange crash caused after adding a new command, which used the following argument processing code which has been working perfectly fine in all Unix systems since version 6 - but not so in U-Boot: int main (int argc, char **argv) { while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { /* ====> */ while (*++*argv) { switch (**argv) { case 'd': debug++; break; ... default: usage (); } } } ... } The line marked "====>" will corrupt the malloc data structures and usually cause U-Boot to crash when the next command gets executed by the shell. With the modification, the compiler will prevent this with an error: increment of read-only location '*argv' N.B.: The code above can be trivially rewritten like this: while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { char *arg = *argv; while (*++arg) { switch (*arg) { ... * ppc4xx: Convert PPC4xx UIC defines from lower case to upper caseStefan Roese2009-09-28-7/+7
| | | | | | | The latest PPC4xx register cleanup patch missed the UIC defines. This patch now changes lower case UIC defines to upper case. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
* ppc4xx: Big cleanup of PPC4xx definesStefan Roese2009-09-11-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch cleans up multiple issues of the 4xx register (mostly DCR, SDR, CPR, etc) definitions: - Change lower case defines to upper case (plb4_acr -> PLB4_ACR) - Change the defines to better match the names from the user's manuals (e.g. cprpllc -> CPR0_PLLC) - Removal of some unused defines Please test this patch intensive on your PPC4xx platform. Even though I tried not to break anything and tested successfully on multiple 4xx AMCC platforms, testing on custom platforms is recommended. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
* General help message cleanupWolfgang Denk2009-06-12-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Many of the help messages were not really helpful; for example, many commands that take no arguments would not print a correct synopsis line, but "No additional help available." which is not exactly wrong, but not helpful either. Commit ``Make "usage" messages more helpful.'' changed this partially. But it also became clear that lots of "Usage" and "Help" messages (fields "usage" and "help" in struct cmd_tbl_s respective) were actually redundant. This patch cleans this up - for example: Before: => help dtt dtt - Digital Thermometer and Thermostat Usage: dtt - Read temperature from digital thermometer and thermostat. After: => help dtt dtt - Read temperature from Digital Thermometer and Thermostat Usage: dtt Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
* Command usage cleanupPeter Tyser2009-01-28-2/+2
| | | | | | | | Remove command name from all command "usage" fields and update common/command.c to display "name - usage" instead of just "usage". Also remove newlines from command usage fields. Signed-off-by: Peter Tyser <ptyser@xes-inc.com>

* | ppc4xx: Fix SDRAM inititialization of multiple 405 based board portsStefan Roese2008-09-12-23/+0
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch fixes a problem introdiced with patch bbeff30c [ppc4xx: Remove superfluous dram_init() call or replace it by initdram()]. The boards affected are: - PCI405 - PPChameleonEVB - quad100hd - taihu - zeus Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
* ppc4xx: Fix printf format warnings now visible with the updated format checkStefan Roese2008-07-10-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | This patch fixes ppc4xx related printf format warning. Those warnings are now visible since patch dc4b0b38d4aadf08826f6c31270f1eecd27964fd [Fix printf errors.] by Andrew Klossner has been applied. Thanks, this is really helpful. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
* Change initdram() return type to phys_size_tBecky Bruce2008-06-12-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch changes the return type of initdram() from long int to phys_size_t. This is required for a couple of reasons: long int limits the amount of dram to 2GB, and u-boot in general is moving over to phys_size_t to represent the size of physical memory. phys_size_t is defined as an unsigned long on almost all current platforms. This patch *only* changes the return type of the initdram function (in include/common.h, as well as in each board's implementation of initdram). It does not actually modify the code inside the function on any of the platforms; platforms which wish to support more than 2GB of DRAM will need to modify their initdram() function code. Build tested with MAKEALL for ppc, arm, mips, mips-el. Booted on powerpc MPC8641HPCN. Signed-off-by: Becky Bruce <becky.bruce@freescale.com>
