* Switch from archive libraries to partial linkingSebastien Carlier2010-11-17-12/+12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Before this commit, weak symbols were not overridden by non-weak symbols found in archive libraries when linking with recent versions of binutils. As stated in the System V ABI, "the link editor does not extract archive members to resolve undefined weak symbols". This commit changes all Makefiles to use partial linking (ld -r) instead of creating library archives, which forces all symbols to participate in linking, allowing non-weak symbols to override weak symbols as intended. This approach is also used by Linux, from which the gmake function cmd_link_o_target (defined in config.mk and used in all Makefiles) is inspired. The name of each former library archive is preserved except for extensions which change from ".a" to ".o". This commit updates references accordingly where needed, in particular in some linker scripts. This commit reveals board configurations that exclude some features but include source files that depend these disabled features in the build, resulting in undefined symbols. Known such cases include: - disabling CMD_NET but not CMD_NFS; - enabling CONFIG_OF_LIBFDT but not CONFIG_QE. Signed-off-by: Sebastien Carlier <sebastien.carlier@gmail.com>
* fsl: Clean up printing of PCI boot infoPeter Tyser2010-11-14-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Previously boards used a variety of indentations, newline styles, and colon styles for the PCI information that is printed on bootup. This patch unifies the style to look like: ... * config.mk cleanup: drop "-I$(TOPDIR)/board" entriesWolfgang Denk2010-10-18-27/+0
| | | | | | | | | After the recent cleanups, a number of config.mk files consist only of a "PLATFORM_CPPFLAGS += -I$(TOPDIR)/board" entry whih is not needed. Remove such entries. In most cases, that means that the whole config.mk file can be removed. Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
* Makefile: move all Power Architecture boards into boards.cfgWolfgang Denk2010-10-18-122/+4
| | | | | | | | | | Clean up Makefile, and drop a lot of the config.mk files on the way. We now also automatically pick all boards that are listed in boards.cfg (and with all configurations), so we can drop the redundant entries from MAKEALL to avoid building these twice. * Rename TEXT_BASE into CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASEWolfgang Denk2010-10-18-14/+17
| | | | | | | | | | | | The change is currently needed to be able to remove the board configuration scripting from the top level Makefile and replace it by a simple, table driven script. Moving this configuration setting into the "CONFIG_*" name space is also desirable because it is needed if we ever should move forward to a Kconfig driven configuration system. | | * cfi_flash: Simplify dynamic flash bank number detectionStefan Roese2010-09-20-7/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch simplifies the use of CONFIG_SYS_MAX_FLASH_BANKS_DETECT. By moving these optional variables and defines into the common code, board specific code is minimized. Currently only the following board use this feature: APC405, IDS8247, TQM834x And IDS8247 doesn't seem to really need this feature, since its not updating the bank number variable at all. So this patch removes the definition of CONFIG_SYS_MAX_FLASH_BANKS_DETECT from this board port. This new framework will be used by the upcoming lwmon5 update as well. * Rename getenv_r() into getenv_f()Wolfgang Denk2010-08-04-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | While running from flash, i. e. before relocation, we have only a limited C runtime environment without writable data segment. In this phase, some configurations (for example with environment in EEPROM) must not use the normal getenv(), but a special function. This function had been called getenv_r(), with the idea that the "_r" suffix would mean the same as in the _r_eentrant versions of some of the C library functions (for example getdate vs. getdate_r, getgrent vs. getgrent_r, etc.). Unfortunately this was a misleading name, as in U-Boot the "_r" generally means "running from RAM", i. e. _after_ relocation. To avoid confusion, rename into getenv_f() [as "running from flash"] Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de> Acked-by: Detlev Zundel <dzu@denx.de>

* powerpc/85xx & 86xx: Rework ft_fsl_pci_setup to not require aliasesKumar Gala2010-07-20-6/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | Previously we used an alias the pci node to determine which node to fixup or delete. Now we use the new fdt_node_offset_by_compat_reg to find the node to update. * 83xx/85xx/86xx: LBC register cleanupBecky Bruce2010-07-16-28/+27
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently, 83xx, 86xx, and 85xx have a lot of duplicated code dedicated to defining and manipulating the LBC registers. Merge this into a single spot. To do this, we have to decide on a common name for the data structure that holds the lbc registers - it will now be known as fsl_lbc_t, and we adopt a common name for the immap layouts that include the lbc - this was previously known as either im_lbc or lbus; use the former. In addition, create accessors for the BR/OR regs that use in/out_be32 and use those instead of the mismash of access methods currently in play. I have done a successful ppc build all and tested a board or two from each processor family. * Make sure that argv[] argument pointers are not modified.Wolfgang Denk2010-07-04-10/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The hush shell dynamically allocates (and re-allocates) memory for the argument strings in the "char *argv[]" argument vector passed to commands. Any code that modifies these pointers will cause serious corruption of the malloc data structures and crash U-Boot, so make sure the compiler can check that no such modifications are being done by changing the code into "char * const argv[]". This modification is the result of debugging a strange crash caused after adding a new command, which used the following argument processing code which has been working perfectly fine in all Unix systems since version 6 - but not so in U-Boot: int main (int argc, char **argv) { while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { /* ====> */ while (*++*argv) { switch (**argv) { case 'd': debug++; break; ... default: usage (); } } } ... } The line marked "====>" will corrupt the malloc data structures and usually cause U-Boot to crash when the next command gets executed by the shell. With the modification, the compiler will prevent this with an error: increment of read-only location '*argv' N.B.: The code above can be trivially rewritten like this: while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { char *arg = *argv; while (*++arg) { switch (*arg) { ... * Redundant Environment: protect full sector sizeWolfgang Denk2009-06-04-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Several boards used different ways to specify the size of the protected area when enabling flash write protection for the sectors holding the environment variables: some used CONFIG_ENV_SIZE and CONFIG_ENV_SIZE_REDUND, some used CONFIG_ENV_SECT_SIZE, and some even a mix of both for the "normal" and the "redundant" areas. Normally, this makes no difference at all. However, things are different when you have to deal with boards that can come with different types of flash chips, which may have different sector sizes. Here we may have to chose CONFIG_ENV_SECT_SIZE such that it fits the biggest sector size, which may include several sectors on boards using the smaller sector flash types. In such a case, using CONFIG_ENV_SIZE or CONFIG_ENV_SIZE_REDUND to enable the protection may lead to the case that only the first of these sectors get protected, while the following ones aren't. This is no real problem, but it can be confusing for the user - especially on boards that use CONFIG_ENV_SECT_SIZE to protect the "normal" areas, while using CONFIG_ENV_SIZE_REDUND for the "redundant" area. To avoid such inconsistencies, I changed all sucn boards that I found to consistently use CONFIG_ENV_SECT_SIZE for protection. This should not cause any functional changes to the code. * Fix all linker script to handle all rodata sectionsTrent Piepho2009-03-20-6/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A recent gcc added a new unaligned rodata section called '.rodata.str1.1', which needs to be added the the linker script. Instead of just adding this one section, we use a wildcard ".rodata*" to get all rodata linker section gcc has now and might add in the future. However, '*(.rodata*)' by itself will result in sub-optimal section ordering. The sections will be sorted by object file, which causes extra padding between the unaligned rodata.str.1.1 of one object file and the aligned rodata of the next object file. This is easy to fix by using the SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT command. This patch has not be tested one most of the boards modified. Some boards have a linker script that looks something like this: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.rodata) *(.rodata.str1.4) *(.eh_frame) I change this to: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.eh_frame) *(SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT(SORT_BY_NAME(.rodata*))) This means the start of rodata will no longer be 16 bytes aligned. However, the boundary between text and rodata/eh_frame is still aligned to 16 bytes, which is what I think the real purpose of the ALIGN call is. Signed-off-by: Trent Piepho <xyzzy@speakeasy.org>
* boards: get mac address from env and move load_sernum_ethaddr() to board initMike Frysinger2009-03-20-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The environment is the canonical storage location of the mac address, so we're killing off the global data location and moving everything to querying the env directly. Rather than have common ppc code call a board-specific function like load_sernum_ethaddr(), have each board call it in its own board-specific misc_init_r() function. The boards that get converted here are: - kup4k/kup4x - pcs440ep - tqm8xx Signed-off-by: Mike Frysinger <vapier@gentoo.org> CC: Ben Warren <biggerbadderben@gmail.com> CC: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
* TQM8xxL: make some room in low memory for future needsWolfgang Denk2009-02-19-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | THe TQM8xxL use a ahnd-optimized linker script to efficiently use the small boot sectors in the flash. This patch makes some room in the first sector to prepare for a size increase of lib_generic/vsprintf.o by a future patch. Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
