* Switch from archive libraries to partial linkingSebastien Carlier2010-11-17-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Before this commit, weak symbols were not overridden by non-weak symbols found in archive libraries when linking with recent versions of binutils. As stated in the System V ABI, "the link editor does not extract archive members to resolve undefined weak symbols". This commit changes all Makefiles to use partial linking (ld -r) instead of creating library archives, which forces all symbols to participate in linking, allowing non-weak symbols to override weak symbols as intended. This approach is also used by Linux, from which the gmake function cmd_link_o_target (defined in config.mk and used in all Makefiles) is inspired. The name of each former library archive is preserved except for extensions which change from ".a" to ".o". This commit updates references accordingly where needed, in particular in some linker scripts. This commit reveals board configurations that exclude some features but include source files that depend these disabled features in the build, resulting in undefined symbols. Known such cases include: - disabling CMD_NET but not CMD_NFS; - enabling CONFIG_OF_LIBFDT but not CONFIG_QE. Signed-off-by: Sebastien Carlier <sebastien.carlier@gmail.com>
* fsl: Clean up printing of PCI boot infoPeter Tyser2010-11-14-9/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Previously boards used a variety of indentations, newline styles, and colon styles for the PCI information that is printed on bootup. This patch unifies the style to look like: ... * Makefile: move all Power Architecture boards into boards.cfgWolfgang Denk2010-10-18-27/+0
| | | | | | | | | | Clean up Makefile, and drop a lot of the config.mk files on the way. We now also automatically pick all boards that are listed in boards.cfg (and with all configurations), so we can drop the redundant entries from MAKEALL to avoid building these twice. Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
* Rename TEXT_BASE into CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASEWolfgang Denk2010-10-18-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | The change is currently needed to be able to remove the board configuration scripting from the top level Makefile and replace it by a simple, table driven script. Moving this configuration setting into the "CONFIG_*" name space is also desirable because it is needed if we ever should move forward to a Kconfig driven configuration system. * powerpc/85xx & 86xx: Rework ft_fsl_pci_setup to not require aliasesKumar Gala2010-07-20-6/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | Previously we used an alias the pci node to determine which node to fixup or delete. Now we use the new fdt_node_offset_by_compat_reg to find the node to update. Additionally, we replace the code in each board with a single macro call that makes assumes uniform naming and reduces duplication in this area. Signed-off-by: Kumar Gala <galak@kernel.crashing.org>
* powerpc/86xx: Rename PCI1/2 to PCIE1/2 on MPC8641HPCN & SBC8641Kumar Gala2010-07-20-34/+34
| | | | | | | | The MPC8641 boards actually only have PCIE not PCI. Rename so we are uniform with regards to names so we can replace this code with templated code. Signed-off-by: Kumar Gala <galak@kernel.crashing.org>
* powerpc/86xx: Move PCI/PCIe address defines into common immap_86xx.hKumar Gala2010-07-20-2/+2
| | | | | | | | Remove dupliacted setting of PCI/PCIe address and offsets in board config.h. Renamed CONFIG_SYS_PCI1/2_ADDR to CONFIG_SYS_PCI1/2ADDR on MPC8641 boards since its really PCIE controllers and not PCI. Signed-off-by: Kumar Gala <galak@kernel.crashing.org>
* Move arch/ppc to arch/powerpcStefan Roese2010-04-21-7/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | As discussed on the list, move "arch/ppc" to "arch/powerpc" to better match the Linux directory structure. Please note that this patch also changes the "ppc" target in MAKEALL to "powerpc" to match this new infrastructure. But "ppc" is kept as an alias for now, to not break compatibility with scripts using this name. | | | | | | | | Now that the other architecture-specific lib directories have been moved out of the top-level directory there's not much reason to have the '_generic' suffix on the common lib directory. Signed-off-by: Peter Tyser <ptyser@xes-inc.com>
* Move lib_$ARCH directories to arch/$ARCH/libPeter Tyser2010-04-13-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | Also move lib_$ARCH/config.mk to arch/$ARCH/config.mk This change is intended to clean up the top-level directory structure and more closely mimic Linux's directory organization. Signed-off-by: Peter Tyser <ptyser@xes-inc.com>

* sbc8641d: fix LAW so board doesn't hang on DDR initPaul Gortmaker2009-10-16-1/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | All versions between now and since this commit: commit bd76729bcbfd64b5d016a9b936f058931fc06eaf MPC86xx: set CONFIG_MAX_MEM_MAPPED to 2G by default will fail to allow the SBC8641D to get past DDR init, because the LAW config was overlapping. * 86xx: Remove redudant PLATFORM_CPPFLAGSKumar Gala2009-08-28-3/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | For historic reasons we had defined some additional PLATFORM_CPPFLAGS like: PLATFORM_CPPFLAGS += -DCONFIG_MPC86xx=1 PLATFORM_CPPFLAGS += -DCONFIG_MPC8641=1 However these are all captured in the config.h and thus redudant. * 86xx: Cleanup MP supportKumar Gala2009-04-01-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | * Use CONFIG_MP instead of CONFIG_NUM_CPUS to match 85xx * Introduce determine_mp_bootpg() helper. We'll need this to address a bug introduced in v2009.03 with 86xx MP booting. We have to make sure to reserve the region of memory used for the MP bootpg() so other u-boot code doesn't use it. * Added dummy versions of cpu_reset(), cpu_status() & cpu_release() to allow cmd_mp.c to build and work. In the future we should look at implementing all these functions. This could be common w/85xx if we use spin tables on 86xx. Signed-off-by: Kumar Gala <galak@kernel.crashing.org>
* mpc8641hpcn/sbc8641d: Add missing board_lmb_reservesBecky Bruce2009-03-31-0/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | We're missing the board_lmb_reserve definitions that allow cpu_mp_lmb_reserve to be called; this means that Linux is free to reallocate reserved pages. Linux currently boots because we're getting lucky - the page we've reserved is high enough in memory that it isn't allocated by Linux while we still need it to be in existence. * Fix all linker script to handle all rodata sectionsTrent Piepho2009-03-20-3/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A recent gcc added a new unaligned rodata section called '.rodata.str1.1', which needs to be added the the linker script. Instead of just adding this one section, we use a wildcard ".rodata*" to get all rodata linker section gcc has now and might add in the future. However, '*(.rodata*)' by itself will result in sub-optimal section ordering. The sections will be sorted by object file, which causes extra padding between the unaligned rodata.str.1.1 of one object file and the aligned rodata of the next object file. This is easy to fix by using the SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT command. This patch has not be tested one most of the boards modified. Some boards have a linker script that looks something like this: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.rodata) *(.rodata.str1.4) *(.eh_frame) I change this to: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.eh_frame) *(SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT(SORT_BY_NAME(.rodata*))) This means the start of rodata will no longer be 16 bytes aligned. However, the boundary between text and rodata/eh_frame is still aligned to 16 bytes, which is what I think the real purpose of the ALIGN call is. Signed-off-by: Trent Piepho <xyzzy@speakeasy.org>
* 86xx: Reset updatePeter Tyser2009-02-16-0/+29
| | | | | | | | | | Update the 86xx reset sequence to try executing a board-specific reset function. If the board-specific reset is not implemented or does not succeed, then assert #HRESET_REQ. Using #HRESET_REQ is a more standard reset procedure than the previous method and allows all board peripherals to be reset if needed. Signed-off-by: Peter Tyser <ptyser@xes-inc.com>
* sbc8641d: Fix PCI mapping conceptsBecky Bruce2009-01-13-9/+9
| | | | | | | | | Rename _BASE to _BUS, as it's actually a PCI bus address, separate virtual and physical addresses into _VIRT and _PHYS, and use each appopriately. This makes the code easier to read and understand, and facilitates mapping changes going forward. Signed-off-by: Becky Bruce <beckyb@kernel.crashing.org>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | Because some dimm parameters like n_ranks needs to be used with the board frequency to choose the board parameters like clk_adjust etc. in the board_specific_paramesters table of the board ddr file, we need to pass the dimm parameters to the board file. * move ddr dimm parameters header file from /cpu to /include directory. * add ddr dimm parameters to populate board specific options. * Fix fsl_ddr_board_options() for all the 8xxx boards which call this function. * Change initdram() return type to phys_size_tBecky Bruce2008-06-12-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch changes the return type of initdram() from long int to phys_size_t. This is required for a couple of reasons: long int limits the amount of dram to 2GB, and u-boot in general is moving over to phys_size_t to represent the size of physical memory. phys_size_t is defined as an unsigned long on almost all current platforms. This patch *only* changes the return type of the initdram function (in include/common.h, as well as in each board's implementation of initdram). It does not actually modify the code inside the function on any of the platforms; platforms which wish to support more than 2GB of DRAM will need to modify their initdram() function code. Build tested with MAKEALL for ppc, arm, mips, mips-el. Booted on powerpc MPC8641HPCN. Signed-off-by: Becky Bruce <becky.bruce@freescale.com>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is the proper fix for a missing closing brace in the function ft_cpu_setup() noticed by joe.hamman <at> embeddedspecialties.com. The ft_cpu_setup() function in mpc8641hpcn.c should have been removed earlier as it was under the obsolete CONFIG_OF_FLAT_TREE, but was missed. Only, the sbc8641d was nominally still using it. It all got ripped out, and the funcality that was in ft_board_setup() was refactored to remove the CPU portions into the new file cpu/mpc86xx/fdt.c instead. Make sbc8641d use this now. * Fix linker scripts: add NOLOAD atribute to .bss/.sbss sectionsWolfgang Denk2008-01-12-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | With recent toolchain versions, some boards would not build because or errors like this one (here for ocotea board when building with ELDK 4.2 beta): ppc_4xx-ld: section .bootpg [fffff000 -> fffff23b] overlaps section .bss [fffee900 -> fffff8ab] For many boards, the .bss section is big enough that it wraps around at the end of the address space (0xFFFFFFFF), so the problem will not be visible unless you use a 64 bit tool chain for development. On some boards however, changes to the code size (due to different optimizations) we bail out with section overlaps like above. The fix is to add the NOLOAD attribute to the .bss and .sbss sections, telling the linker that .bss does not consume any space in the image. Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
