* MIPS: Split I & D cache line size configPaul Burton2016-05-31-1/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | Allow L1 Icache & L1 Dcache line size to be specified separately, since there's no architectural mandate that they be the same. The [id]cache_line_size functions are tidied up to take advantage of the fact that the Kconfig entries are always present to simply check them for zero rather than needing to #ifdef on their presence. Signed-off-by: Paul Burton <paul.burton@imgtec.com> [removed CONFIG_SYS_CACHELINE_SIZE in include/configs/pic32mzdask.h] Signed-off-by: Daniel Schwierzeck <daniel.schwierzeck@gmail.com>
* MIPS: Move cache sizes to KconfigPaul Burton2016-05-31-0/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | Move details of the L1 cache line sizes & total sizes into Kconfig, defaulting to 0. A new CONFIG_SYS_CACHE_SIZE_AUTO Kconfig entry is introduced to allow platforms to select auto-detection of cache sizes, and it defaults to being enabled if none of the cache sizes are set by the configuration (ie. sizes are all the default 0), and code is adjusted to #ifdef on that rather than on the definition of the sizes (which will always be defined even if 0). Signed-off-by: Paul Burton <paul.burton@imgtec.com>
* MIPS: Move CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASE to KconfigPaul Burton2016-05-26-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | Move CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASE to Kconfig, and add default values in board Kconfig files matching what was present in their config headers. This will make it cleaner to conditionalise the value for Malta based on 32 vs 64 bit builds. Signed-off-by: Paul Burton <paul.burton@imgtec.com>
* mips: vct: move CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASE away from config.mkMasahiro Yamada2016-01-20-13/+0
| | | | | | | | | | We can delete board/micronas/vct/config.mk by moving the define of CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASE to somewhere else. Other MIPS boards are still defining it in include/config/${BOARD}.h, so I am following that way here. * MIPS: vct: fix I/O accessor callsDaniel Schwierzeck2016-01-16-2/+4
| | | | | | | | Use void pointers as address argument for readl( and writel()). This is required for the upcoming MIPS asm header file and I/O accessor update. Signed-off-by: Daniel Schwierzeck <daniel.schwierzeck@gmail.com>
* arch: Make board selection choices optionalJoe Hershberger2015-05-12-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | By making the board selections optional, every defconfig will include the board selection when running savedefconfig so if a new board is added to the top of the list of choices the former top's defconfig will still be correct. * MIPS: kconfig: add options for vct board variant selectDaniel Schwierzeck2014-11-01-0/+24
| | | | | | | | | The vct board can be built with various variants which are configured via CONFIG_SYS_EXTRA_OPTIONS. This is deprecated. Thus add new Kconfig options for those board variants. Signed-off-by: Daniel Schwierzeck <daniel.schwierzeck@gmail.com> Acked-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
* MIPS: kconfig: globally define CONFIG_SYS_CPU for MIPSDaniel Schwierzeck2014-11-01-3/+0
| | | | | | | Now the user can select the CPU type for each target. Thus CONFIG_SYS_CPU could be set globally. Signed-off-by: Daniel Schwierzeck <daniel.schwierzeck@gmail.com>
* MAINTAINERS: comment out blank M: fieldMasahiro Yamada2014-09-24-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Since commit ddaf5c8f3030050fcd356a1e49e3ee8f8f52c6d4 (patman: RunPipe() should not pipe stdout/stderr unless asked), Patman spits lots of "Invalid MAINTAINERS address: '-'" error messages for patches with global changes. It takes too long for Patman to process them. Anyway, "M: -" does not carry any important information. Rather, it is just like a place holder in case of assigning a new board maintainer. Let's comment out. This commit can be reproduced by the following command: find . -name MAINTAINERS | xargs sed -i -e '/^M:[[:blank:]]*-$/s/^/#/' Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.m@jp.panasonic.com>
* kconfig: remove redundant "string" type in arch and board KconfigsMasahiro Yamada2014-09-13-4/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now the types of CONFIG_SYS_{ARCH, CPU, SOC, VENDOR, BOARD, CONFIG_NAME} are specified in arch/Kconfig. We can delete the ones in arch and board Kconfig files. This commit can be easily reproduced by the following command: find . -name Kconfig -a ! -path ./arch/Kconfig | xargs sed -i -e ' /config[[:space:]]SYS_\(ARCH\|CPU\|SOC\|\VENDOR\|BOARD\|CONFIG_NAME\)/ { N s/\n[[:space:]]*string// } ' Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.m@jp.panasonic.com>
* Add board MAINTAINERS filesMasahiro Yamada2014-07-30-0/+17
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We have switched to Kconfig and the boards.cfg file is going to be removed. We have to retrieve the board status and maintainers information from it. The MAINTAINERS format as in Linux Kernel would be nice because we can crib the scripts/get_maintainer.pl script. After some discussion, we chose to put a MAINTAINERS file under each board directory, not the top-level one because we want to collect relevant information for a board into a single place. TODO: Modify get_maintainer.pl to scan multiple MAINTAINERS files. * kconfig: add board Kconfig and defconfig filesMasahiro Yamada2014-07-30-0/+19
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This commit adds: - arch/${ARCH}/Kconfig provide a menu to select target boards - board/${VENDOR}/${BOARD}/Kconfig or board/${BOARD}/Kconfig set CONFIG macros to the appropriate values for each board - configs/${TARGET_BOARD}_defconfig default setting of each board (This commit was automatically generated by a conversion script based on boards.cfg) In Linux Kernel, defconfig files are located under arch/${ARCH}/configs/ directory. It works in Linux Kernel since ARCH is always given from the command line for cross compile. But in U-Boot, ARCH is not given from the command line. Which means we cannot know ARCH until the board configuration is done. That is why all the "*_defconfig" files should be gathered into a single directory ./configs/. * MIPS: vct: remove custom u-boot.lds scriptGabor Juhos2013-01-31-68/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Remove the board specific linker script. It is not needed anymore, the unified MIPS linker script can be used instead. All vct targets are producing identical binary images after the change than before. * MIPS: remove OUTPUT_FORMAT from linker scriptsGabor Juhos2013-01-30-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The OUTPUT_FORMAT command in linker scripts was always misused due to some endianess and toolchain problems. * common: Discard the __u_boot_cmd sectionMarek Vasut2012-10-22-7/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | The command declaration now uses the new LG-array method to generate list of commands. Thus the __u_boot_cmd section is now superseded and redundant and therefore can be removed. Also, remove externed symbols associated with this section from include/command.h . * punt unused clean/distclean targetsMike Frysinger2011-10-15-6/+0
| | | | | | | | | | The top level Makefile does not do any recursion into subdirs when cleaning, so these clean/distclean targets in random arch/board dirs never get used. Punt them all. MAKEALL didn't report any errors related to this that I could see. Signed-off-by: Mike Frysinger <vapier@gentoo.org>
* Fix incorrect use of getenv() before relocationWolfgang Denk2011-05-12-3/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A large number of boards incorrectly used getenv() in their board init code running before relocation. In some cases this caused U-Boot to hang when certain environment variables grew too long. Fix the code to use getenv_r(). * Switch from archive libraries to partial linkingSebastien Carlier2010-11-17-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Before this commit, weak symbols were not overridden by non-weak symbols found in archive libraries when linking with recent versions of binutils. As stated in the System V ABI, "the link editor does not extract archive members to resolve undefined weak symbols". This commit changes all Makefiles to use partial linking (ld -r) instead of creating library archives, which forces all symbols to participate in linking, allowing non-weak symbols to override weak symbols as intended. This approach is also used by Linux, from which the gmake function cmd_link_o_target (defined in config.mk and used in all Makefiles) is inspired. The name of each former library archive is preserved except for extensions which change from ".a" to ".o". This commit updates references accordingly where needed, in particular in some linker scripts. This commit reveals board configurations that exclude some features but include source files that depend these disabled features in the build, resulting in undefined symbols. Known such cases include: - disabling CMD_NET but not CMD_NFS; - enabling CONFIG_OF_LIBFDT but not CONFIG_QE. Signed-off-by: Sebastien Carlier <sebastien.carlier@gmail.com>
* Rename TEXT_BASE into CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASEWolfgang Denk2010-10-18-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | The change is currently needed to be able to remove the board configuration scripting from the top level Makefile and replace it by a simple, table driven script. Moving this configuration setting into the "CONFIG_*" name space is also desirable because it is needed if we ever should move forward to a Kconfig driven configuration system. * Make sure that argv[] argument pointers are not modified.Wolfgang Denk2010-07-04-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The hush shell dynamically allocates (and re-allocates) memory for the argument strings in the "char *argv[]" argument vector passed to commands. Any code that modifies these pointers will cause serious corruption of the malloc data structures and crash U-Boot, so make sure the compiler can check that no such modifications are being done by changing the code into "char * const argv[]". This modification is the result of debugging a strange crash caused after adding a new command, which used the following argument processing code which has been working perfectly fine in all Unix systems since version 6 - but not so in U-Boot: int main (int argc, char **argv) { while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { /* ====> */ while (*++*argv) { switch (**argv) { case 'd': debug++; break; ... default: usage (); } } } ... } The line marked "====>" will corrupt the malloc data structures and usually cause U-Boot to crash when the next command gets executed by the shell. With the modification, the compiler will prevent this with an error: increment of read-only location '*argv' N.B.: The code above can be trivially rewritten like this: while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { char *arg = *argv; while (*++arg) { switch (*arg) { ... * General help message cleanupWolfgang Denk2009-06-12-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Many of the help messages were not really helpful; for example, many commands that take no arguments would not print a correct synopsis line, but "No additional help available." which is not exactly wrong, but not helpful either. Commit ``Make "usage" messages more helpful.'' changed this partially. But it also became clear that lots of "Usage" and "Help" messages (fields "usage" and "help" in struct cmd_tbl_s respective) were actually redundant. This patch cleans this up - for example: Before: => help dtt dtt - Digital Thermometer and Thermostat Usage: dtt - Read temperature from digital thermometer and thermostat. After: => help dtt dtt - Read temperature from Digital Thermometer and Thermostat Usage: dtt Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
* Fix all linker script to handle all rodata sectionsTrent Piepho2009-03-20-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A recent gcc added a new unaligned rodata section called '.rodata.str1.1', which needs to be added the the linker script. Instead of just adding this one section, we use a wildcard ".rodata*" to get all rodata linker section gcc has now and might add in the future. However, '*(.rodata*)' by itself will result in sub-optimal section ordering. The sections will be sorted by object file, which causes extra padding between the unaligned rodata.str.1.1 of one object file and the aligned rodata of the next object file. This is easy to fix by using the SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT command. This patch has not be tested one most of the boards modified. Some boards have a linker script that looks something like this: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.rodata) *(.rodata.str1.4) *(.eh_frame) I change this to: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.eh_frame) *(SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT(SORT_BY_NAME(.rodata*))) This means the start of rodata will no longer be 16 bytes aligned. However, the boundary between text and rodata/eh_frame is still aligned to 16 bytes, which is what I think the real purpose of the ALIGN call is. Signed-off-by: Trent Piepho <xyzzy@speakeasy.org>
