* avr32/m68k/microblaze/nds32/nios2/openrisc/sh/sparc: fix do_bootm_linuxAndreas Bießmann2013-07-02-0/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 35fc84fa1ff51e15ecd3e464dac87eb105ffed30 broke bootm on avr32. It requires to call do_bootm_linux() with flag set to BOOTM_STATE_OS_PREP before calling it again with flag set to BOOTM_STATE_OS_GO. Fix this by allowing flag set to BOOTM_STATE_OS_PREP, this however will require a complete refactoring later on. * Clarify bootm OS argumentsSimon Glass2013-06-26-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | At present the arguments to bootm are processed in a somewhat confusing way. Sub-functions must know how many arguments their calling functions have processed, and the OS boot function must also have this information. Also it isn't obvious that 'bootm' and 'bootm start' provide arguments in the same way. Adjust the code so that arguments are removed from the list before calling a sub-function. This means that all functions can know that argv[0] is the first argument of which they need to take notice. Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org>

| * Refactor linker-generated arraysAlbert ARIBAUD2013-03-12-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Refactor linker-generated array code so that symbols which were previously linker-generated are now compiler- generated. This causes relocation records of type R_ARM_ABS32 to become R_ARM_RELATIVE, which makes code which uses LGA able to run before relocation as well as after. * | Introduce generic link section.h symbol filesSimon Glass2013-03-15-0/+27
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We create a separate header file for link symbols defined by the link scripts. It is helpful to have these all in one place and try to make them common across architectures. Since Linux already has a similar file, we bring this in even though many of the symbols there are not relevant to us. Each architecture has its own asm/sections.h where symbols specifc to that architecture can be added. For now everything except AVR32 just includes the generic header. One change is needed in arch/avr32/lib/board.c to make this conversion work. Reviewed-by: Tom Rini <trini@ti.com> (version 5) Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org>
* | Replace __bss_end__ with __bss_endSimon Glass2013-03-15-4/+4
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | Note this is a tree-wide change affecting multiple architectures. At present we use __bss_start, but mostly __bss_end__. This seems inconsistent and in a number of places __bss_end is used instead. Change to use __bss_end for the BSS end symbol throughout U-Boot. This makes it possible to use the asm-generic/sections.h file on all archs. Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org>

* Add architecture-specific global dataSimon Glass2013-02-01-0/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | We plan to move architecture-specific data into a separate structure so that we can make the rest of it common. As a first step, create struct arch_global_data to hold these fields. Initially it is empty. This patch applies to all archs at once. I can split it if this is really a pain. * nios2: remove asm/status_led.hThomas Chou2012-11-10-31/+0

* POST: add post_log_res field for post results in global dataValentin Longchamp2011-10-05-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The current post_log_word in global data is currently split into 2x 16 bits: half for the test start, half for the test success. Since we alredy have more than 16 POST tests defined and more could be defined, this may result in an overflow and the post_output_backlog would not work for the tests defined further of these 16 positions. An additional field is added to global data so that we can now support up to 32 (depending of architecture) tests. The post_log_word is only used to record the start of the test and the new field post_log_res for the test success (or failure). The post_output_backlog is for this change also adapted. | | | | | | | | | | | | | Allow redirection of console output prior to console initialisation to a temporary buffer. * Handle most LDSCRIPT setting centrallyScott Wood2011-04-30-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently, some linker scripts are found by common code in config.mk. Some are found using CONFIG_SYS_LDSCRIPT, but the code for that is sometimes in arch config.mk and sometimes in board config.mk. Some are found using an arch-specific rule for looking in CPUDIR, etc. Further, the powerpc config.mk rule relied on CONFIG_NAND_SPL when it really wanted CONFIG_NAND_U_BOOT -- which covered up the fact that not all NAND_U_BOOT builds actually wanted CPUDIR/u-boot-nand.lds. Replace all of this -- except for a handful of boards that are actually selecting a linker script in a unique way -- with centralized ldscript finding. If board code specifies LDSCRIPT, that will be used. Otherwise, if CONFIG_SYS_LDSCRIPT is specified, that will be used. If neither of these are specified, then the central config.mk will check for the existence of the following, in order: $(TOPDIR)/board/$(BOARDDIR)/u-boot-nand.lds (only if CONFIG_NAND_U_BOOT) $(TOPDIR)/$(CPUDIR)/u-boot-nand.lds (only if CONFIG_NAND_U_BOOT) $(TOPDIR)/board/$(BOARDDIR)/u-boot.lds $(TOPDIR)/$(CPUDIR)/u-boot.lds Some boards (sc3, cm5200, munices) provided their own u-boot.lds that were dead code, because they were overridden by a CPUDIR u-boot.lds under the old powerpc rules. These boards' own u-boot.lds have bitrotted and no longer work -- these lds files have been removed. Signed-off-by: Scott Wood <scottwood@freescale.com> Tested-by: Graeme Russ <graeme.russ@gmail.com>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | commit 8aba9dceebb14144e07d19593111ee3a999c37fc Divides variable of linker flags to LDFLAGS-u-boot and LDFLAGS breaks the usage of --gc-section to build nand_spl. We still need linker option --gc-section for every uboot image, not only the main one. LDFLAGS_FINAL passes the --gc-sections to each uboot image. To get the proper linker flags, we use LDFLAGS and LDFLAGS_FINAL to replace PLATFORM_LDFLAGS in the Makefile of each nand_spl board. * Switch from archive libraries to partial linkingSebastien Carlier2010-11-17-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Before this commit, weak symbols were not overridden by non-weak symbols found in archive libraries when linking with recent versions of binutils. As stated in the System V ABI, "the link editor does not extract archive members to resolve undefined weak symbols". This commit changes all Makefiles to use partial linking (ld -r) instead of creating library archives, which forces all symbols to participate in linking, allowing non-weak symbols to override weak symbols as intended. This approach is also used by Linux, from which the gmake function cmd_link_o_target (defined in config.mk and used in all Makefiles) is inspired. The name of each former library archive is preserved except for extensions which change from ".a" to ".o". This commit updates references accordingly where needed, in particular in some linker scripts. This commit reveals board configurations that exclude some features but include source files that depend these disabled features in the build, resulting in undefined symbols. Known such cases include: - disabling CMD_NET but not CMD_NFS; - enabling CONFIG_OF_LIBFDT but not CONFIG_QE. Signed-off-by: Sebastien Carlier <sebastien.carlier@gmail.com>

* Replace CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE by auto-generated valueWolfgang Denk2010-10-26-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE has always been just a bad workarond for not being able to use "sizeof(struct global_data)" in assembler files. Recent experience has shown that manual synchronization is not reliable enough. This patch renames CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE into GENERATED_GBL_DATA_SIZE which gets automatically generated by the asm-offsets tool. In the result, all definitions of this value can be deleted from the board config files. We have to make sure that all files that reference such data include the new <asm-offsets.h> file. No other changes have been done yet, but it is obvious that similar changes / simplifications can be done for other, related macro definitions as well. * FDT: only call boot_get_fdt from generic codeJohn Rigby2010-10-18-5/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | All arches except nios2 and microblaze call boot_get_fdt from bootm_start in common/cmd_bootm.c. Having nios2 and microblaze do so as well removes code from their respective do_bootm_linux routines and allows removal of a nasty ifdef from bootm_start. In the case where boot_get_fdt returns an error bootm_start returns and the platform specific do_bootm_linux routines will never get called. Also only check argv[3] for an fdt addr if argc > 3 first.
