* Switch from archive libraries to partial linkingSebastien Carlier2010-11-17-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Before this commit, weak symbols were not overridden by non-weak symbols found in archive libraries when linking with recent versions of binutils. As stated in the System V ABI, "the link editor does not extract archive members to resolve undefined weak symbols". This commit changes all Makefiles to use partial linking (ld -r) instead of creating library archives, which forces all symbols to participate in linking, allowing non-weak symbols to override weak symbols as intended. This approach is also used by Linux, from which the gmake function cmd_link_o_target (defined in config.mk and used in all Makefiles) is inspired. The name of each former library archive is preserved except for extensions which change from ".a" to ".o". This commit updates references accordingly where needed, in particular in some linker scripts. This commit reveals board configurations that exclude some features but include source files that depend these disabled features in the build, resulting in undefined symbols. Known such cases include: - disabling CMD_NET but not CMD_NFS; - enabling CONFIG_OF_LIBFDT but not CONFIG_QE. Signed-off-by: Sebastien Carlier <sebastien.carlier@gmail.com>
* Replace CONFIG_RELOC_FIXUP_WORKS by CONFIG_NEEDS_MANUAL_RELOCWolfgang Denk2010-10-29-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | By now, the majority of architectures have working relocation support, so the few remaining architectures have become exceptions. To make this more obvious, we make working relocation now the default case, and flag the remaining cases with CONFIG_NEEDS_MANUAL_RELOC. * board_init_r: Removed unused cmdtp variableRichard Retanubun2010-10-19-1/+0
| | | | | Follow up to commit 620f1f6a64095ed558e68d37f1965d015cd49b02 removed compiler warning for (now) unused cmd_tbl_t* cmdtp
* relocation: fixup cmdtableHeiko Schocher2010-09-19-21/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | fixup_cmdtable() did all work for fixing up the cmdtable, if CONFIG_RELOC_FIXUP_WORKS is not defined. CONFIG_RELOC_FIXUP_WORKS is missing for i386! I talked with Graeme Russ, and he will fix this soon. Portions of this work were supported by funding from the CE Linux Forum. Signed-off-by: Heiko Schocher <hs@denx.de>
* avr32: Add simple paging supportHaavard Skinnemoen2010-09-03-0/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Use the MMU hardware to set up 1:1 mappings between physical and virtual addresses. This allows us to bypass the cache when accessing the flash without having to do any physical-to-virtual address mapping in the CFI driver. The virtual memory mappings are defined at compile time through a sorted array of virtual memory range objects. When a TLB miss exception happens, the exception handler does a binary search through the array until it finds a matching entry and loads it into the TLB. The u-boot image itself is covered by a fixed TLB entry which is never replaced. This makes the 'saveenv' command work again on ATNGW100 and other boards using the CFI driver, hopefully without breaking any rules. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com>
* Rename getenv_r() into getenv_f()Wolfgang Denk2010-08-04-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | While running from flash, i. e. before relocation, we have only a limited C runtime environment without writable data segment. In this phase, some configurations (for example with environment in EEPROM) must not use the normal getenv(), but a special function. This function had been called getenv_r(), with the idea that the "_r" suffix would mean the same as in the _r_eentrant versions of some of the C library functions (for example getdate vs. getdate_r, getgrent vs. getgrent_r, etc.). Unfortunately this was a misleading name, as in U-Boot the "_r" generally means "running from RAM", i. e. _after_ relocation. To avoid confusion, rename into getenv_f() [as "running from flash"] Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de> Acked-by: Detlev Zundel <dzu@denx.de>
* Make sure that argv[] argument pointers are not modified.Wolfgang Denk2010-07-04-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The hush shell dynamically allocates (and re-allocates) memory for the argument strings in the "char *argv[]" argument vector passed to commands. Any code that modifies these pointers will cause serious corruption of the malloc data structures and crash U-Boot, so make sure the compiler can check that no such modifications are being done by changing the code into "char * const argv[]". This modification is the result of debugging a strange crash caused after adding a new command, which used the following argument processing code which has been working perfectly fine in all Unix systems since version 6 - but not so in U-Boot: int main (int argc, char **argv) { while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { /* ====> */ while (*++*argv) { switch (**argv) { case 'd': debug++; break; ... default: usage (); } } } ... } The line marked "====>" will corrupt the malloc data structures and usually cause U-Boot to crash when the next command gets executed by the shell. With the modification, the compiler will prevent this with an error: increment of read-only location '*argv' N.B.: The code above can be trivially rewritten like this: while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { char *arg = *argv; while (*++arg) { switch (*arg) { ... * Fix (null) problem for AVR32 boardsReinhard Meyer (-VC)2010-06-29-2/+3
| | | | | | | | | | Currently the U-Boot address ranges for AVR32 boards are printed like this: "U-Boot code: (null) -> 0001183c data: 000188e8 -> 0004e9b0" This patch fixes this to print: "U-Boot code: 00000000 -> 0001183c data: 000188f8 -> 0004e9c0" Signed-off-by: Reinhard Meyer <info@emk-elektronik.de>
* Move lib_$ARCH directories to arch/$ARCH/libPeter Tyser2010-04-13-0/+745
